Roommate

Hurray for me! I expected that most of the students enrolled at St. John’s College would be unique, intelligent, fun, and determined; my roommate is all of these things and more. Last week St. John’s sent me a rather mysterious letter with my roommate’s name and mailing address.
So Ethan Brooks and I will be roommates. I wrote him a letter and received an e-mail in reply yesterday. He’s a neat guy. These are the known details:

  • He’s a Private First Class in the Marine Corps;
  • He deferred his enrollment for a year like me;
  • He likes PT (that is, “physical training”) such as jogging and lifting weights;
  • He lives in Pennsylvania;
  • He’s Jewish by faith (and I think also by blood);
  • He likes tennis;
  • And his ma teaches dance history, modern dance, and movement analysis at Franklin and Marshal College.
I suppose from that information I can only be sure that he’s unique and determined. But I also assume a high level of intelligence from his writing, and from his humorous e-mail address I have concluded that he has a sense of humor and fun. So even now I’m thanking God for giving me such a good roommate to live with during my freshmen year at St. John’s College.

If you’re reading this, Ethan, I’ll see you soon. I’m praying for you (us, our year, etc.). Praise the Lord.

I had some friends and family praying about my roommate situation. Living with a certain person can have a huge impact on your physical, psychical, and spiritual wellbeing. I trust that God has sent a good man to be there in Annapolis with me, and I’m very excited to walk into this new world and embrace everything He has prepared for me.
