I had a regatta yesterday at the Occoquan Reservoir in Virginia. What a lovely day! I put sunscreen on my face and ears and neck, and then I took off my long pants for the race without considering the fact that my knees and legs were exposed and sticking straight up because of the cramped way I sit in my little coxswain’s seat. The sun toasted my knees and shins! Even the tops of my thumbs are a little burned because of the way my hands stick up from the seat as I hold the steering cables. Ouchies.
The crew season is over, but hopefully I will be rowing all summer. I want to make an arrangement with my coach to have access to the boathouse in the mornings before work. I could come down early, grab a single and scull (to pray and relax on the water as the sun comes up), and then shower at the gym and head off to work in the Alumni Office. I think it sounds like a dream, and it may come true. If it doesn’t work so pleasantly, I may go sculling in the afternoons with Dave Cherry, a professional coxswain and coach who works in the Admissions Office.
Dad’s visit was nice. I hope he had a good time. I felt a little awkward, as I usually do when people come to visit, because I had nothing planned except the normal bits of my schedule. Long story short, I think Dad enjoyed being down here. Next weekend Mum and Greg are coming to visit me, and I’ll be moving into my apartment while they’re here. Good stuff.
I need to finish off tonight’s section of the Phaedrus and go pray before my seminar. I need to pray before seminar! This is a tough reading, all about the nature of love/lust in the context of Greek pederasty. It’s not what I would call “wholesome” to meditate on. I trust, however, that the Lord will speak to me tonight in seminar as He has been doing. Praise Jesus.
Toodles.
