Tonight there’s going to be a early, rockin’ Halloween dance/costume party. Naturally, I’m planning my own party. Jonathan and I will probably watch a movie or talk for a few hours. He’s recovering from the flu, and neither of us is very inclined to partake of the festivities, so we’re going to keep each other company.
Last year I remember we (my Monday night gang) did street ministry on Halloween night, talking with the kids on Liberty Street in Bath. We got ourselves into a somewhat creepy situation with a gun-wielding teenager on a street corner with poor Charlie and Susan. It was intense then. In retrospect, it’s yet a good story, but very sad. I remember talking with him about God and discovering that he thought AIDS was a divine plague meant to control the population of earth. In the end we were able to talk to him about love, but that was brutally interrupted with a showdown involving the gun being waved in front of my face at someone across the street. Charlie, Susan, and I left shortly thereafter.
This year I don’t know if I’ll be taking to the streets again, but I may head down to the party if I’m yet awake and help people if I can. Organized parties at the school are hosted by a club called “Reality.” The last few parties have been extremely loud and somewhat out of control. Needless to say, I don’t like Reality. I don’t participate in Reality. And I’m content to be as far away from Reality as possible. Reality is overrated, anyway.
By the way, my meeting with the Assistant Dean about my roommate went extremely well. I think I’ve found a new ally in Ms. Kronsberg for my remaining four years. Praise the Lord. Keep praying for Ethan, too, because he’s undergoing a massive social and spiritual change, and he can’t do it on his own.
Unfortunately, the regatta tomorrow has been cancelled. We won’t have a formal race until 11 November. I’m a little bummed, but that also means I’ll be able to attend church and play soccer tomorrow. And then, next week, I’ll be able to spent time with my dad! I’m excited for Parents’ Weekend. My dad will have a blast here. I get to show him off to all my friends….
