I won a tie this morning! Or, that is, my crew and I won ties this morning. Every Friday our club has a tie race of some sort. We did 500m dashes down College Creek. I coxed a mixed veteran eight. I think I had about five women—enough to keep our boat set better than the typical men’s boat. We raced, as I recall, three times this morning. In the end, we were the victors, and the victors always receive ties. There’s no guarantee on the quality of the tie; some, unfortunately, are stained cotton ties, whereas others are stylish and made of silk. I received a nice silk one this morning: black with a beige and blue (old man, Buick blue) diamond pattern. I’d guess mine is one of the nicer ties of the bunch. The tradition with the ties is that the victors wear them to Friday lecture later that night. I haven’t worn a tie in a long time. (Mom, can you teach me, please, how to tie it one more time?)
This morning will be spent relaxing. I’ll do a bit of work, and then at 10:20 I made an appointment to see the Assistant Dean about something. If this is read in time, I would appreciate any prayers you can offer. I’m going, on my own volition, to the defense of my roommate, who is facing potential expulsion before the end of the semester. I consider this the will of God for me to speak with Ms. Kronsberg about this. Whether Ethan stays or goes, I won’t fail him and he will know that God can never fail him. The Holy Spirit is moving in all of this, and I can feel him, but I cannot foresee what will happen next.
Some of the lyrics of Jason Upton’s song “40” from his Faith album:
You are my Providence
You are my God
You are the One who provides for me
You are my Brother
You are my God
You are the One who provides
I will trust in You
We give up control of our lives and our destinies
We give up control right now
I give up control of my life and my destiny
I give up control right now
I lift my arms to my God and my Father
I life my arms to You
You are the God and Creator of all
I give my hands to You
I trust in You!
