I suppose I always considered myself a minimalist with regards to shoes. I had a pair of Nike flip-flops from my junior year in high school, a once-beautiful pair of black clogs now two years old, some cheap running shoes, and some ugly, blocky, black formal shoes. But today I fell from my minimalist image; as a gift for college my mother bought me a really nice pair of black Bass dress shoes, brown leather sandals, and brown clogs. Now I seem like a borderline metrosexual, and it’s messing with my head. I’m suddenly very conscious of whether my shoes match my belt or if my pants are the right color. Oh the agony!
On a more positive note—the one where I’m not writing as a snobby American brat who complains that he has too much of something—I am thankful for such nice things. God is good to His children, and I’ve been very blessed with new shoes, among other things.
