There’s something satisfying about a hot cup of tea. I’m currently sitting in the computer lab at school right now writing a paper for my language tutorial on logic in Plato’s Meno and Aristotle’s Topics, Prior Analytics, and Posterior Analytics. I’m heavily invested in the paper, but it’s not very good so far. So I’ll stop boring you with it and go back to my musings about tea.
One of the strangest memories I have of India is the pleasure I took in waking up to a steaming hot cup of chai (black spiced tea with loads of milk and sugar boiled into it). It was so tasty. It was sweet enough to get anyone out of bed for the quick sugar rush, and I wondered then whether it was highly caffeinated to make me always want more. Maybe the sugar was enough to cause such cravings. The odd part about my liking the chai wasn’t the sweetness, but the hotness. Some mornings it would be 100ºF in the shade, and yet I still wanted some hot tea. It was so instantly satisfying to have that in the morning. Just as now, while experiencing the brain-pain as I struggle to write this paper, I am comforted by writing something else,—so also then I would somehow escape the heat of the morning by drinking tea. Delicious Indian tea.
Go figure.
