I was listening to a song—“Redeemer” by Nicole C. Mullen. There’s a movement at the end of the song when a gospel choir comes in singing, “I know my Redeemer lives!” She sings the lead between the phrases in her funktastic style. In one of her shouts she sings, “(I know my Redeemer lives!) I spoke with Him this morning!”
It inspires me. I spoke with Jesus this morning. How wild!
There’s a bit of a struggle when people ask me about speaking with God. There are many raised eyebrows from the atheist community, but there’s even more derision from those who have invented their own form of God. I remember feeling a little scorned when I worked at Bully Hill Vineyards in 2004 when my coworkers would tell stories about a certain woman from my area in New York who had driven off the road a few times in her car because she claimed a god was instructing her so. What can I say to that? I can defend my God, of course, in that He is a God of peace and hope and love, the One who treasures life because His very breath is life to mankind.
The evidence I have of my conversations with God is my faith—that is, His words and my deeds.
