I feel silly. I didn’t even report on my weekend. I had a fun time with Tim & Tanya on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday they took me to see a Navy hockey game a few towns over against Stony Brook University. I spent some time at their house beforehand with a friend of theirs from Tanya’s family’s church. Tanya made some scrumptious pasta with a chunky pesto sauce. Yummy. The game was fun to watch. We stood ringside in the freezing cold, somewhat enclosed area. Navy lost 6-2, and that was a bummer, but it was neat to be so close. Tim and Tanya are only now beginning to be hockey fans. They went to a Capitals game a few weeks ago and were very intrigued at the sport. NHL is certainly a step removed from the Navy game, but it’s fun to have teams to root for closer to home.
On Sunday I got some more sports team action as I ventured to Tanya’s eldest brother’s house for the Indianapolis Colts victorious game against the New England Patriots. I’m not a football buff by any means, but it was an exciting game. Because of time restraints I decided to do some Greek work during the third quarter, but the ending was very exciting. Tanya’s brothers literally moshed when Indianapolis’s victory was certain. It was so funny, and so much fun. I got some work done too.
Now I’m working on junk for financial aid and scholarships. It makes me a little grumpy to think about it, but it’s not too strenuous to fit into my schedule.
The current reading for seminar is taking a chunk of time for me thought. The Sophist makes me ask all sorts of questions. Here’s an excerpt from my questions jotted down spontaneously during discussion:

- A sophist is defined by what he does, which is sophistry. Am I, Philip Mohr, defined by my actions? Or, are actions, which we perceive, only appearances of who I am? I’m not as interested in how Philip appears as I am in his being. Ultimately, I do believe the fruit will tell me if the tree is bad. And now it makes sense why all are judged according to their actions.
- Are things ever similar in being, or only similar in appearance?
- Is ignorance having a lack of wisdom, or, if a soul already has wisdom initially, is ignorance the impurity of the soul obstructing the wisdom from bearing fruit?
1 comment:
Or is ignorance a result of the ego, believing in the separation of the soul from its glory and wisdom (and power)? I think of Peter, walking on water until his "rational" mind kicked in to tell him that it wasn't possible!
