I must apologize for my ambiguous posts of late. I’ve not fallen into despair, I promise. These are actually reflections of thoughts past that I’m only now getting the chance to write about. My mum (I love you!) sent me a concerned e-mail today, clueing me in on how cryptic I’d been.
Everything is wonderful here. I’ve had a little bit of extra time to listen to music, contemplate, and talk with people about non-Program things—namely, God’s work in our lives and how St. John’s is leading us into a deeper faith.
Today was a good day. Church at BRCC was good, as usual. Bret is an excellent teacher, currently exploring the wisdom writings. Specifically he’s speaking about Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes, but in practice he tends to incorporate more verses from the New Testament than in those books themselves.
After church I came back and took a few minutes to listen to Jason Upton before soccer. We played the Hustlers today, and I scored two goals, but I had to leave quite early to go to a paper conference with my language tutor, Mr. Merrill. He’s a neat guy, and very bright, but also a bit tough to talk with. He always keeps eye contact, and that wouldn’t be a problem but for his huge, brilliant azure eyes. He gives the impression of looking through one’s face into the infinitudes of the soul—or something. But we had a really nice conference. The initial topic was my paper concerning the bloodless gods, which I posted a few weeks ago. We quickly moved past that into the epic contemplative struggle to examine the role of heroes in the Iliad, and, perhaps in vain, to delve into the vast expanse of the character Achilles.
After my conference, one of my fellow Druids reported that we won 3-1. Go Druids!
I need to put some time into that paper assigned by Mr. Kidd. I want to make it something special, but unfortunately I can’t delve as deep as I want to in one weekend. I think I’ll use this paper as a catalyst for more questions to consider heading into my Freshman Paper.
Have done with this. I’m off to write. Toodles.
