To what can I liken this generation? They’re like a family huddled in a room watching television. They have closed the thick, heavy curtains about the windows to block out the light that would cause a glare on the television. They block out the sun’s light so they can see an artificial light. On the television they watched bright pictures of the world flashing by, and this they desire over the bright world beyond the window. But the glimpses on the television are ephemeral, and there’s always need for one after the next. So they sit on, captivated with these things, even fake things, desiring the counterfeit over the true, because it seems foolish to them that what’s true is possibly beyond what they have made.
Lord, smash open the windows and blow aside the curtains, even violently if need be. Let the true light shine and undo the light of the counterfeiters. And now I consider, Jesus, that this is what You have already done, and yet they won’t venture outside. But I have faith, and there is hope for Your love to come shining through in them.
