It's raining, it's pouring,It’s very wet here. It stinks! Well, I don’t actually know that, because I have a runny nose.
The old man is snoring,
He went to bed and bumped his head
And couldn't get up in the morning.
On a more positive note, I finished the Odyssey today. The ending is fun. Many, many people died. In that way it’s quite similar to the Iliad, but the overall mood is different. Though it’s heretical for me to simplify the epic genre, I honestly understand the Iliad as a tragedy, whereas the Odyssey is more like a fairy tale. At the end of the latter I imagined the line, “And the son of Laertes, with his wife and son, lived happily ever after.” But regardless, lots of people did die, so that makes it another extravagant, action-packed, intensely Greek poem.
Hurray! No more Homeric labor! Next we’ll tackle Plato’s Meno. And then, the world!
