I enjoy reading the labs...they make me think.
I think I can tell you why the Philosopher-Scientist didn't try jumping off the building. You see, he pushed his friend off, in the name of science and knowledge of course, and WITNESSED the pain and likely death that followed. So, HE decided to take the stairs, and consequently had more time to contemplate his descent.
