Hope at the End of the Trail

My mom and I went to the Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning. They have an interesting Ansel Adams exhibit there now—all wonderful. But I was truly enchanted by the sculpture pieces. One bronze, in my opinion, stood out as a masterpiece. It was a miniature cast of “The End of the Trail” by James Earl Fraser. The original plaster statue is the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.The portrayed man is so sad. In my heart I know that it is a projection of our nation’s current state. The people of this land are reaping the sorrow that was sown. Nothing short of a miracle will keep us from the same end on this asphalt trail.
But I know there is hope. And I found that hope in the next room of the museum’s uppermost floor when gazing at a plaster model of
Cyrus E. Dallin’s “Appeal to the Great Spirit”:
